I work part-time for a company still using CF in a major way. Not sure if/when they'll move away from it. It's entrenched, so it'll be a lot of work to change. 3 days a week, I'm coding in that language! Thankfully CF has improved over the years, including the scripting so it doesn't necessarily feel like the CF of years ago.

Not sure if InVision is still using Coldfusion, but they were an example of a company launching in more recent years that was built on CF. news.ycombinator.com/item

I've spent the last couple of years learning a new stack personally (centered on Elixir/Phoenix), so now it makes the CF codebase really feel like an ancient relic when I work in it...which, I suppose it is. :-)

I've watched most of the ColdFusion users switch to PHP over time as they can no longer find (or afford) people who know ColdFusion, but one of the companies I know of that is still using it is doing fresh development - writing business software for a (trucking/shipping) logistics company to use internally as a CRM, and to manage loads and inventory, basically an all-in-one suite for their business.

It's a very interesting choice, and it makes me wonder if it's a source of friction for the team building it or if they find it a joy to use.

Hm. Interesting choice. Yeah I'd be curious about the reasons for that choice, too.

We have certainly had a major difficult time finding/affording CF devs.

It's funny....years ago when I decided to learn that language, I knew it was very niche and probably always would be. But there seemed to be a number of corp/gov/edu companies adopting it so I figured that I'd be able to stay working with it for years to come, exactly for that reason. So, from that standpoint it has afforded me a lot of job security, and I went into it eyes wide open and that niche bet paid off.

But I've made a concerted effort to continue to learn other skills, too, though. Job security or not, I haven't wanted to die on the CF vine.
