What stack(s) would you recommend to be a full-stack developer?

If someone would like to be a full-stack web developper and already knows DHTML (HTML+CSS+JS), what stack(s) would you recommend him to learn and there's more than one, in which order ?

-LAMP/WAMP (Linux/Windows+Apache/Abyss Web Server+MySQL+PHP)

-MEAN.js (MongoDB+Express.js+Angular+Node.js)

-MEAN.io

-MHAN (H: Hapi.js)

-MEEN (2nd E: Ember.js)

-MHEN

-Meteor.js

-Meteor.js+Angular (so Angular instead of Blaze)

-MERRN (R: React.js, Redux)

-DHTML+PHP&MySQL

-DHTML+Python (using Django)

-Others

I consider myself to be a full-stack developer because:

I do backend stuff.
I can design for the frontend
Can work with servers be it Linux or Windows.

I believe these are the requirements to be called a full stack developer. The stack doesn't matter IMHO, as long as you can do server stuff, frontend and backend, I believe you qualify as a full-stack developer.

True, but in order to do those things you need to know of those stacks (even if you mix up or use other options).

You don't necessary need to know these stacks to be a full-stack developer is all I'm saying. What if Ruby was your poison for the backend and CanJS for the front-end. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference or work environment preference. These stacks are good to know. Just pick anyone and grow from there.

@kayandrae I agree with you. My point was that whatever you languages/libraries/frameworks you use to develop things as a full-stack developer, you still use a stack even if it's just two components. Even if you use DHTML for FE and PHP&MySQL for BE you're still using a stack. Do you get what I'm saying or/and where I'm trying to go with this thread ?

Node is a safe investment of time, as it's shooting up. MEAN as a stack is pretty big right now, but it does require you to learn four new frameworks / concepts and Angular in particular isn't a one-weekend catch-up kind of undertaking (unless you already do know any of these?).

I think Samuel is right in that any server-side technology will help you along the way. But be aware that the server world is being shaken up dramatically these days, by containers and devops tooling etc... Simply knowing your way around a Linux or Windows server OS isn't going to cut it for much longer.

Node is well-placed to handle these new trends, as is Python btw.

Edit: Meteor.js is a great entry point for getting into a single full-stack framework. Especially if you go with the just replaced version 1.2, in which you don't have to worry about importing anything, wondering about folder structure or such things. It's all taken care of for you, and their front-end templating system (Blaze) is baby-play easy.

Careful with the latest version (v1.3), though: While the above all still works in 1.3, it's now deprecated in favor of explicit modularization and "proper" view layers such as React and Angular, discouraging the ease of entry that was the default in v1.2.

Nice answer. I do know that the server-side is seamingly getting toward the client-side with JS's <i>1 language to rule them all</i> with MEAN for instance.

Wait so Meteor.js 1.3 uses React+Angular instead of Blaze for the FE ?

Meteor has supported React and Angular via third party packages before, but since 1.2 they have been more closely integrated. You can still use Blaze and they continue to develop it, but they are heavily encouraging you to use it only for prototyping and small requirements - meanwhile for larger apps, the push is to use React, and to a lesser extent Angular (unofficially, React is everyone's favorite as the current and future view layer) That being said, there are plenty of Blaze users still and the Meteor guide (guide.meteor.com) provides tutorials on all three options.

DON'T Be full-stack developer

Why ? If you want to develop websites/webapps on your own you have to be full-stack.

You can build a good and professional team instead of doing the whole works alone
