Not that I've hosted any but usually one would organise and advertise an event on multiple platforms to reach as many potential interested people as possible. I'd use facebook, twitter, linkedin, own website blog post, meetup, on the website of place its being hosted, local communities relevant to the meetup and maybe even subreddits.
