Reading this, the reader might be discouraged in going embedded+rust :) , even though today some aspects, if not all, have improved tremendously.

Very true. This brings back memories from my early days with embedded Rust :) The landscape has sure changed and things have become much better. In fact, I'm working on material nowadays that eliminates many of those hurdles. I'll make sure to link it here.
