The only thing I don't like is to have mern-cli installed globally. So I did git init and git pull ... manually and filed an issue about unforced global installations.

It does. Check if your MongoDB is running, you need to have mongo running for this to work.

Congratulations for this great project! I am planning using a similar stack Express, React, Redux just as front end hitting an API, I mean, no MongoDB. Can I do it with MERN?

You can replace MongoDB with any database you want!

Why did you choose Express over HAPI? HAPI has a graceful-shutdown built-in, routes validation, logging...

Sure, HAPI has all the greater goods with it, but we wanted to keep it as simple as possible. Express is minimal and is very beginner friendly.

However if you play with it and replace Express with HAPI. Show us on Hashnode, we would love to try it out! :)
