What exactly does "other things" mean? I love R.

Talking about SQL, I am also interested not just drivers.

Views and stored procedures
Driver declared functions
If possible, augmenting the driver with CFFI in SQLite.

Any new language, including Julia, face the problem that they have a smaller community, fewer packages or libraries. That is obviously a disadvantage.

SQL is a great tool when you are handling relational databases to extract useful information from the data. For most business decisions that we make at a quantitative level, SQL does a good job with joins and aggregate functions.
