Hey Curtis, I especially agree with the first and 11th. ;)

Everyone should know that emails Always 'sound' and feel different from in-person comments, even if the words are the same. To me, it is especially important to take extra care to be polite. Bonus. The eleventh (to me) was 'Learn to write effectively.' Good writing is so difficult. Getting the tone correct is hard enough, much less not straying from the point.

I do agree they go hand in hand. Much context is lost with writing. With teams increasingly going remote, it's important to check the tone of how you're writing is coming across.

It's a document where you can keep track of your accomplishments. It's useful to get visibility from engineering managers or mentors who have influence on your promotion.

Some useful things to keep track of:

Code reviews where you shipped quickly
STAR stories where you had business impact
Metrics demonstrating your ability to perform at the next level

All these are great tips that as developers we shouldn't forget, thanks for sharing Curtis Einsmann

I'd recommend the book Writing Without Bullshit by Josh Bernoff.

I'd also recommend reading a lot. Books, by well-known authors. Notice the way sentences and thoughts are structured on the page.
