In the Twitter scenario you've mentioned ..what I see as a massive drawback in dApps is the need to spend ether or some other form of crypto-currency even to "post a tweet" as it alters the Blockchain...This sounds like dApps that use some form of Public Blockchain like Ethereum will never be able to create massive social media type websites..isnt't it?
