The alias or collection-version suggestion is the strongest part of the document update flow. Marking the old version inactive after inserting the new chunks still leaves a consistency window unless the active pointer changes atomically. I prefer building the new version in isolation, validating counts and sentinel queries, then flipping the alias in one operation and retaining the old collection briefly for rollback.
