I agree on the struggle of working with Next.Js to accomplish simple things, which if we go back to the basics of just serving things from the server will do the same thing.

Some applications might need this complexity tho to accomplish FE heavy computations, etc.

But for most of the websites that I See today, they also tend to go in the FE frameworks when it might not be needed so they end up complicating their life

• It has become too complex: I do not agree with this. How are you learning next.js? I learned HTML, CSS and JavaScript for like 3 years, just wasting time confusing what is React and Next.js. One day, I came on YT to learn SvelteKit. I did nothing but watched this youtube.com/watch and built a portfolio website.

It was my first time to use Svelte, SvelteKit and TailwindCSS (I was not experienced with Node.js either, I didn't knew how to make a react project and had to copy-paste to make one :skull:)

Just in one video I understanded good amount of tailwind CSS and svelte. We're not here about Svelte or Tailwind CSS, but I may just say that...

Learn when you are ready, don't go quick! I only learned Svelte for like 3 to 7 days and came on React.

After svelte, I watched this video and built a next.js portfolio. This literally covered and made me understand like around 5% of next.js and react, maybe?

Hope this make you understand something. What I want to say you and everyone is, it's your choice. If you think next.js is hard but you still want to learn it, then learn the core/basics (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc) first.

Don't go ahead directly tailwind CSS with next.js if you are new to both them together, unless you are watching a youtube video.

Additionally, you can learn another language if you think you don't seriously have a interest in Next.js. Maybe another react framework: Remix? Maybe another web dev library: Vue/Angular? Or maybe another language probably, Ruby?

One last thing If you are already experienced with some other programming languages, I also got intermediate or advanced in Python throughout the last 3 years, you can adapt other frameworks and languages quickly.

Always start with building a portfolio with the language you prefer ,but don't switch portfolios too much quick. Instead, make templates like a restaurant website. Feel free to take any images for the restaurant you wish: pinterest and theres lot.

Interesting article. Have you tried Django? One thing I like about Django is it has a clean architecture. You basically can build "modules" called apps and share them across projects.

Using Python is also a breeze, with no weird types (even though Python is strongly typed).

The thing about Django is it's been around since 2005 or thereabout, but has maintained its core feature set and does not break backward compatibility (If you don't count the python 2 vs 3 saga, but still even that wasn't too bad.).

Sure there are lots of new features, deprecations, and so on but there hasn't been a monumental shift every year/few months like with NextJs.

Skills I learned 5-10 years ago are still very useful in Django 5 today because the framework largely works the same.

This doesn't mean that they don't innovate, they have also had to keep up with the FE world, SPA's, and so on but yet again somehow have managed these transitions very smoothly.

Django comes with most of what you need for most projects, so you are not as dependent on third-party libraries or services.

Django is Python-based, so naturally all the libraries you get with Python are available including machine-learning libraries like Pandas, Pytorch, and so forth.

Finally for the frontend, you can still use React but also there is HTMX and "Django Unicorn" that can get you quite a bit of mileage without the complexity of the whole TypeScript ecosystem.

I've decided to move away from Next.js due to its steep learning curve and complex setup.
