Markdown is easy and newbie friendly. If your client needs WYSIWYG (like writing on WordPress dashboard), you can integrate it to CMS such Forestry.

Jekyll is user friendly and good for website with few content. But when your content grows to hundreds or thousands, the build and deploy process will be much slower. That's why I choose Hugo rather than Jekyll for my static website.
