I am a self taught programmer from the UK. Busy crafting and documenting portfolio projects so I can demonstrate my abilities. Looking to change industries.

Hey, great post, it’s the ‘devil is in the detail’ thinking that I like about getting to the nuts and bolts. I too would feel uneasy not really knowing how it all works behind the scenes. Obviously, like you say, you don’t need to know - but some people just want to know, and I’m one of those people! One job on my list is to spend a bit of time learning how the stdio library works and really getting into the nitty gritty of the implantation of say, scanf or printf. Thanks for a nice article
Hey thanks - it is good to know how and what is realistic when attempting some projects. I have no experience in server management or managing back end or anything of that ilk. Is it the case that if you have a huge amount of visitors per day - then this is a mammoth effort in itself? Way beyond the abilities of 1 person or a small team? Cheers!
Thanks! Fab answer. I guess with these things it’s hard to tell. At least I can put to bed those dreams of making the next COD! (Actually I did kinda know that was impossible!) And I bet this question gets asked all the time by managers anywho!
Hi, I am Rich and I am a fledgling programmer. I'm an online maths tutor and the time I have freed up (from being a classroom teacher) has enabled me to spend more time with my family and on my interests. I am a keen maker and now have the time to do it! I am teaching my self programming by following CS50 from Harvard and have spent all my coding so far, doing so in C. I really like it as I feel (maybe wrongly?) that I am getting a good grounding in Comp Sci whilst doing it. I want to use my tech skills to make stuff, and maybe even make something cool that could be of use for online teaching- VR, IoT etc. Thanks!
