I would like to spend time answering questions on stackoverflow, however, sometimes is hard, you need to even go to codepen or your local environment and try out a solution, and even worst sometimes you get bad rating from some folks, even the person who asked.
My question is, is it worth the time?
How likely it will be useful for a resume or a getting a job?
I know it is good to have, but can you share your personal experience?
I don't have a Stackoverflow account, but I do use it heavily like the rest of us when I have to.
If you already have some Stackoverflow points and you think they're good, you can mention them in your resume. If you look at most career pages these days, they definitely ask for your GitHub account and optionally ask to attach your SO profile.
That being said, if you don't have enough points there, don't worry about it. Don't focus on building it, just focus on the other important things you need to do, like building a side-project or open source contributions. They carry more weight in the eyes of an employer.

My rep on Home Improvement is 2,326
My rep on StackOverflow is 332
Maybe I should be a general contractor for home remodeling instead of programming, lol...
Rep is worth it if you want to be competitive within the site, but I don't think anyone outside of it cares or would even bring it up. Contributions to Github are probably worth more then anything else to programmer / IT employers.
