I'm a big fan of using an ad blocker and whitelisting the sites I'd like to support. I understand this is a somewhat controversial topic but if you use one, which do you use and why?
I've used Ghostery for a while now but I've read some pretty negative things recently so I've been looking for another. I use 1Blocker on iOS but seeing as I don't use Safari primarily on macOS I haven't bought the extension. If not Ghostery, what do you recommend? AdBlock, Adblock Plus, uBlock / uBlock Origin (what's the difference?), etc.
Thanks, everyone. Have a nice day.
I cannot imagine browsing the Internet without an ad blocker. At first, I used AdBlocker, but eventually I changed it to uBlock. There were some speculations that the original uBlock source code for Chrome was sold to advertisers and was manipulated. That's how the uBlock Origin was born. Why I've migrated to uBlock you may ask - it's faster than AdBlocker, at least in Chrome.
Some sites are blocking the adblocker scripts, so I'm using an anti-adblocker. The source code can be found here - github.com/reek/anti-adblock-killer.
I also use the easyprivacy/disconnect list in combination with Disconnect, which can be an overkill, but I've never took the time to see if they overlap. Nevertheless, I'm pretty happy with the setup I have.
I'm using adblock at the moment but i will definitley checkout ghostery ! :D

Could you elaborate? I do use Ghostery and I like it a lot. On top of that, I use AdBlock.
I mainly browse using Chrome and Firefox on Linux and Windows. I usually use additional protection techniques and hardening, though they are mainly against malware rather than just ads.
