Are there any real jobs available for front-end JavaScript developers (with knowledge of various frameworks like React, Angular, Polymer etc)? Assume that the developer doesn't know CSS and other front-end aspects and knows just JavaScript.
In this (hopefully) hypothetical situation, I would ask what the point of only knowing Javascript is? What can you accomplish without knowing HTML/CSS being a front end developer? How are you expected to manipulate the DOM when you don't know how it works? What would you expect your day-to-day be like?
This comment isn't meant to be condescending, I'm genuinely curious.
Mark,
As people started replacing the old development stack with MEAN and meteor like frameworks so job posting we started seeing around us in the market now. Not exact demand like JavaScript developer but they have post like Front end Fullstack developer or Specific to like Angular developer or Meteor Developer.
Well I must say, there probably is something like that but you will have a lot of trouble finding a job that specific. Usually when a company is looking for someone like you, you must be some kind of javascript guru or god and what they are looking for are really specific knowledge about javascript. Your best shot would be to go on gaming industry, but try to learn something like C++, those jobs are very well payed.
But unless you just want to do Javascript, try to learn html and CSS is easy, you could use CSS preprocessors like SCSS, SASS, LESS or Stylus to make it better and compiling them with node.js through the terminal to feel more like home or with gulp or grunt (I would recommend you to use gulp). Those jobs with a knowledge of React, Angular, Polymer and other frameworks are well foking payed and there's a lot of jobs like that, well not that much in Mexico but the ones here are high payed.
So good luck
In my area (LA), I've seen a few postings like that, however, they usually don't pay well and are few and far between. Most job postings I see what some sort of full-stack experience and/or knowledge of HTML/CSS.
What you're describing is something I've typically seen listed as "javascript engineer." I have seen job listings for that kind of thing.

I don't think this question is based on real world facts. The frameworks you mention have an inherent coupling with CSS (
ng-class,ng-stylein angular, styleandclassNamein react), as does all Javascript/front end development. I am in the process of hiring a front end developers for a busy digital agency in Manhattan, New York City - one the busiest tech markets around - and I would throw away your resume if you said "I know javascript but not CSS." So, to answer your question, no there are not "real" jobs available for developers with just javascript knowledge.
