When you're not busy writing code or reading dev-related articles, what kind of lifestyle do you have?
Very music heavy, particularly of the live variety. Lots of friends around town are in bands (alt/indie), frankly I find that crowd to be very refreshing compared to the pragmatism of most programmers I know.
I used to play a lot of games, paint, do origami, and some rollerblading. Now my hobby is having a 4yr old. (and my day job. and my night job. and...)
So you mean... there is a life outside of DEV?...
No, just kidding. In my "free time" I do many different things.
Most of the time I am playing video games like world of wacraft, league of legends and many other and record them for my youtube channel. I have to cut the raw video files, create intros, outros, highlight some scenes and this kind of stuff.
A few days of the year i dive into my orc role in reallife. I put on my 35 kilo plate armor, my latex orc mask and start hunting for elfes, dwarfes, human and many other things. Not even kidding, it's kalled "Larp", live action role play. Here in germany, we have some of the biggest events in the world, like the "Drachenfest" and "Epic Empires". It's really fun. :D
Sometimes I build terrariums. Therefore I cut styrofoam into little forms, stick them together with toothpicks, glue it over with a kind of cement and seal it with epoxidharz. Right now i builded one for 3 leopardgeckos (150x80x80 cm), and I am working on two new ones for the bearded dragons of a friend (120x60x60cm and 150x80x80). Next year, when i have some money left, i will start to build a jungle terrarium for poison dart frogs (dendrobates), the terrarium itself is already here (60x50x60 cm).
And the rest of the time I am reading (which doesn't happen so often), cooking (mostly vegan or vegetarian, sometimes a nice steak too :P) or simply sleeping on my couch.
When I'm not in front of the computer I'm out scuba diving or doing something else adventurous.
I've stopped playing games years ago, although I sometimes still play on my phone when waiting for things to deploy, update, etc; recently started Baldurs Gate - loving it!
Inbetween working 12-16 hours a day seven days a week, I cycle every day even if it's just a little bit, when I do take break from working, I go mountain biking, we live on the foot of the mountain, so getting a quick session of mountain biking is easy.
We also scuba dive locally when we get the chance or travel to some exotic places and scuba dive there. It's been over a year since I've been underwater; really missing it; this year's just been too busy, hoping to get some scuba diving in soon. Favourite dive location must be the Red Sea at Dahab in Egypt, Sodwana Bay definitely a close second.
Love to try out restaurants, especially Eastern and Indian restaurants (since they usually have vegan / vegetarian options), enjoy hiking, if an opportunity comes along to do anything else, we'll grab it - have done rock climbing, skydiving, quad biking, sandboarding and many more.
Personally, playing Heroes of the Storm and any other Blizzard game. Also, spending a lot of time with my lovely partner and finding interesting places to eat and visit!
Everyday in the midday break I go to the gym. And in the weekend I ride in my motorcycle, sometimes I ride bike too, watch movies and read books
