Recently I have seen articles and lots of news coming up on voice apps and AI. Also, bitcoin and blockchain are in an uproar. It got me wondering what's going to be the next big thing in tech?
If I have missed something, please do add it in the comments.
I have a hunch that voice recognition, artificial intelligence, blockchain, virtual reality, web assembly and quantum computing will all one day meld together and combine into one field - an internet of infinite virtual worlds - it will take over the gaming, film, adult film, fitness and education industries and will create opportunities for a new breed of human-machine interfaces that make experiences in those virtual worlds have tactile feedback in the physical world.
I think all those you listed have yet to reach their potential or promise.
I don't know what the next trend will be, I don't have the data. All the articles I read about AI, Data Science and Blockchain seam to be to some degree bias.
So what are the big trends for this year?
I don't have the data to collect to really predict or have an opinion .... It would be my bias that talks.
Personally I would love to see more AR trending, maybe in combination with a simple AI.
Both blockchain and AI.
AI - It is going to be used to do varieties of complex jobs such as performing dangerous tasks, automated driving, better elder care etc. So, it has huge potential - no doubt.
Blockchain, on the other hand, has the potential to disrupt many industries. Starting from marketplaces to traditional banking and online communities - Blockchain tech has the ability to disrupt them all and help developers innovate a lot in those areas. So, in the coming few years I expect blockchain tech to mature and finally be adopted on a much larger scale than today.
I think WebAssembly is starting to have an impact. It won't be the big thing at the same level as data science, smartphones, the internet or quantum computers, but it will change how quite some people work and what is possible.
imho, all of the above points are already old news. They might not even be at the height of their hype period anymore.
What's the next big thing? That's something everyone wants to know. There are people who try to do some math magic with Excel sheets to determine what might happen next (had someone here just a few days ago). And there are people who try to develop other methods (you might want to read O'Reilly's WTF book).
So, what do I think will be the next big thing in software development? Actually, I hope that in the near future, quantum processing units will become very cheap and fast, so that we can put them into an average PC. That would allow a lot of people to begin exploring things, which are entirely new and not possible, yet. We will probably see revolutions in InfoSec and AI, as well as many more areas.
However, I never really tried to foresee the future, and such cheap units require some kind of breakthrough plus manufacturing, so even if cheap QC becomes available, it will probably be 5-10 years the very earliest until that kind of hype starts.
But AI is not just other forms of programming, you need advanced knowledge about things like linear algebra, statistics, etc.

I would go with voice enable apps. It saves times and interact with us almost at a split second and saves lots of effort as well. I am a fitness instructor and whenever i am doing my workout or training a client as they have to do their walking for weight loss laps completely, they require a watch which can check their pulse rate as well as the time they have consumed doing the over all training too.
