imho it's not so much about writing as about reading and understanding. if (arr.indexOf(4) >= 0) { ... } is not as intuitive and verbose as if (arr.includes(4)) { ... }, which trips beginners and requires other devs to take a second look at the operator to understand what exactly the condition is.

Marco Alka See to me, if that's enough to "trip up" somebody they really have no business being that deep into the code. If it's "confusing" any COMPETENT person should take the time to grab a reference and look up what indexOf DOES.

Side note, didn't mean to bump a two year old post, it came up in that little 4x4 post area below -- there REALLY should be dates on those... or maybe move the date out of the sidebar and next to the flipping title where it would be useful?!?

It's clear what indexOf does, however what does the operator do? Which direction does it face and against which number is it compared? arr.includes(something) is more natural language, so it is easier to read and understand ;)

Yeah, I also dislike the date being on the side. I often search for it until I remember that it's on the side. It's something afaik only Hashnode does, so it does not feel intuitive. CC Syed Fazle Rahman

Again, to me if you need to ask that question, you shouldn't even be in the code. Seems pretty plain and obvious to me.

Though I may have been at this stuff for too long. That whole pesky "I learned to hand assemble machine language years before I ever even had access to a high level language" some four decades ago thing. What's often clear as crystal to me seems to confuse others, and what others find 'easier' often seems counterintuitive, more work, cryptic, and harder to use for me.
