I think Originals should be sticky in the feed for quite some time. On one day I see a purple label "Originals", and on the next day, it's gone until I scroll deep down my feed. The visibility is what I would like to change.
but isn't that what the menu-point is for ? or on the other hand shouldn't it be on the right side like the AMAs ? other than creating special cases and poluting the timeline ?
I agree with @chilimatic It should be in right side, just like how it is for AMA! This will help readers who are little late to the party!
@fibric I agree with @chilimatic, I think having them on the RHS under AMA's would be great. Or potentially, just add a "1"/notification to the "Originals" tab that tells users there is a new article.
@chilimatic The menu bar where I can find Home, Nodes, AMAs, Original,s and More is to me, not a place I click through regularly. I open my browser and browse hashnode.com then I scroll down a bit or click on prominent labels or icons which try to catch my attention such as the notification icon.
I think Originals I haven't read yet should stay sticky at the top of my feed for let's say three days. The rest is up to me if I want to watch it or not.
@fibric I get your point. Still I'm not sure by adding another special always on top story is the right way you take away the focus of discussion of today or what happens if you got n originals within 3 days ? we have the n spaces always reserved ?
I would move it to a special place that's always visible so it's always promoted in a separated component. But ofc that's just taste and they have to discuss it internal.
Good point! Originals require better visibility; however, that might be achieved.
Whyyyyyy? If I scroll past it that means I don't want to see it. If I want to read it, I'l read it. Sticky in the feed is not the correct solution for increased visibility.
@fibric @rajkumarpb @chilimatic @bmlyon Perhaps the option to make it sticky then? When a user comes across it.
@hipkiss91 well that's what the collections are kinda for, the problem is this a unidirectional stream layout from now into to the past -> timeline.
if it would be a tile composition layout it would be different than you could just stick a flag in it and have different tiles that show different things :) but microsoft lost this race I guess ;D .... although it's an ingenious approach but it's complex and information overflow because of the "missing structure". at least that's my opinion.
The idea is that the first screen gives you access to all what's happening now. one solution could be randomized insert the originals as "promo" content into the timeline. so they pop up more than once in the timeline, basically every fetch of the next n topics contains +1 original. so they have a higher distribution rate. The problem is that you would have to have a lot of originals to not repeat yourself to often.
In the end that's a rather complicated topic and only the guys from hashnode can make a decision what they want to do and how they rate the originals in comparison to the other articles. :D .... a classic biznez decision it's a small line between promotion and spam :)
maybe they could make it optional ? but than they would have to educate about the settings, but due to the configuration settings, if we take the "n+1original" post approach, it would be a rather orthogonal to "push one original on stack" approach. Still :D i have no clue about the stack other than it's MERN and this is just mental masturbation on a topic i have no say in the end :D .....
@chilimatic yea, that makes sense lol. I did think about its a timeline and the stream thing after i wrote that. But yea, complicated topic lol.
