There has been a steady rise in the userbase of react native, but it's still at the mercy of Facebook. Keeping the present trends in mind is there any chance that Facebook stops releasing updates to react native?
In my opinion, as Facebook itself uses react native in their apps I don't think they will stop updates and moreover React native is heavily run by the community. There are some recent important changes happening in React native. React native Fabric (There are changing the way whole UI layer is architectured). Things like webview are maintained in a different repos, In order to make the whole source lean.

We take that chance on 100% of open source projects. Maintainers move on to new projects, or simply don't need something any more. If you want 100% control of your future, you have to make everything bespoke.
In this specific case, I think we'd see the industry move away from React Native before we'd see FB suddenly stop working on it. That is, you're more likely to stop using it than they are to stop releasing it.
There's always a chance, of course. And without a timespan, the chance is 100%.
But I'm not sure it's at the mercy of Facebook. It's open source after all.
Even if Facebook stops maintaining it, it doesn't necessarily have to die. There are already contributions from non-Facebook people, though I can't really see which fraction if FB.

When we talk about open-source, we know the support is global. Chances can be both, chances can be positive and negative. Looking to the origin of react native, Facebook itself uses react-native for its Facebook app and Facebook is constantly growing, adding other brands in its plate so thinking that Facebook will stop releasing updates to react native is currently too early to think negative.
69.4% of the developer community supported react native in 2018, and it is currently too trending for the cross-platform app development.
The future is bright and can go for react native without worrying.
