Go with React. I work with Angular and it is way to much of their own style. React will at least keep you closer to writing just HTML and JS. Plus there are business opportunities for Phone application writing and Desktop applications as well.
Do yourself (and the world) a favor, and learn MORE than just the basics of JavaScript / ECMAScript BEFORE you dive for code bloat nonsense like those frameworks. MORE SO bother learning proper semantic HTML and how to separate presentation from contnet -- and the basics of accessibility BEFORE you go pissing on websites with any of that garbage.
You do that, well, you'll recognize just how badly those tools are a giant middle finger to users, a double-bird to "ease" of site construction and maintenance, and in general thrive on the ignorance of people who blindly believe all the wild unfounded claims about them!
Really on any project if you think you "need" either of them, you don't know enough about HTML, CSS, or JavaScript to be working with web technologies. LAUGHABLY in most cases, it's a complete ignorance of HTML and how to leverage CSS selectors that's at fault.
React will looks more easy for the person who haven't tried either of React or Angular . Still you can go for react for sure its pretty simple to start. But get your hands dirty on both. You will be having fun while learning both and you will learn some new concepts in both(2 way binding in Angular and 1 way in React etc).

For me React was easier. The learning curve wasn't as steep as compared to angular. But i'd advise you to play around with both.I'm sure you'll like one better.I used code academy's react course (codecademy.com/learn/react-101) then later looked at their official docs
